Federal Science and Technical College, (FSTC) Yaba formerly known and called Yaba Trade Centre, was established in 1948 by the colonial masters who saw the need for Technical and Vocational Education and its continued relevance to the society. It was specifically designed to train skilled craftsmen and technicians for the then emerging Building and Engineering trades after the Second World War The motivation then was not only to satisfy a growing need in the nation's economy but more importantly, to make the products of the college (craftsmen) self-reliant. At inception, the college started off with 40 trainees and offered training in only two trades namely, Carpentry and Joinery and Cabinet making. By 1954 however, all the 14 basic trades in Engineering, Electrical, Building, were being taught in well-equipped workshops along modern line. The college later transformed to Federal Science and Technical College.
